These are 18in Jewish dolls dressed in long jean skirts and long sleeved shirts. There is one that is historical from 1914 and 4 that are modern. The historical and red-haired modern looks to be the same doll with different outfits. The dolls cost the same- $60, but the modern doll comes with more stuff. I really like the Shabbat Kit the modern dolls come with.
I do like the red haired doll because she has long wavy red hair and blue eyes, something not made by AG. I'm not crazy about the outfit she comes in, I like the one that comes with the brunette doll better. You can buy the clothes seperate, too and their site says their clothes fit AG.
They come with birth cert. with a Jewish/Hebrew name, which is more like Cabbage Patch because you could have 2 of the same doll with different names. You can also order a name specially made, too! It's only $3 more but you have to buy a doll with it, you can't just order a name cert. If I got one she would be a classmate to my Rebekah AG doll.
I don't have the money to spend on any more doll stuff so I'm going to see how much my wilpower holds up. According to the stores page they sell them at a Jewish bookstore very close to me that I've been to many times, and seeing it in a store instead of just online makes it all the more tempting. I may buy the historical book by itself called Miriam's Journey.
My birthday is in April so maybe I can hold out at least until then and I'd still have to use my own money because no one I know would ever buy me a doll of any kind. I think the AG gift cert. my mom sent for was a one-time deal.

Hmmm...they all look very worried to me when I look at them. I think it's the little grove by there eyebrow. Do they seem that way to anyone else?

Someone else had mentioned those before. I looked at them briefly, but it looks like they might have added or changed some stuff.
Good luck with your decision.

Katie, in today's Chicago Tribune in the Tempo section there's an article about the books for the Gali Girls and the stories sound great! If you read the stories, you'll have to let us know how they are!

How very cute. We are not Jewish but have family members that are. My children are always asking questions. I will have to consider one of these dolls in the future (with book of course). Thanks for introducing them.

These look really neat. I grew up reading Sydney Taylor's "All of A Kind Family" books, I wish they would make one to go along with those. There don't seem to be any stores carrying them in my state. I would like to see one in person before thinking further about it. Please post if you purchase one. I agree that the red-haired one is the most interesting to me because she is so unique, and I like the book that goes with her as well . . . .
